Farm Security

Farm Security Advice

  • At North West Locks we would advice obtaining a large recording book and log all valuable equipment.

  • Consider marking each item/tool with SelectaDNA. (insert link to selectDNA here) This can be used on hand tools to small power tools, heavier workshop tools such as pedestal drills, welders etc.

  • Vehicles: Record details of vehicles such as loading shovels, tele-porters and tractors, take engine numbers, chassis numbers, registration numbers and unique markings etc. Also, any details of all cars, vans, land rovers, trailers, horse / cattle boxes, quad bikes and put all into your record book.

  • Fit Trackers. (Trackers are easy to fit and available in shop or online).

  • Contact your local Crime Prevention Officer to arrange your Trailer / Horsebox marking.

  • Lock all your farm gates with a “Keyed Alike” padlock suite. We can provide you with numerous padlocks with one key to suit all. Additional padlocks are available to order at any time online or in store.

  • When choosing padlocks, we recommend using “closed shackle” padlocks as they have a stronger resistance making them less likely to be broken as the shackle is protected. Use a padlock that is suitable for outdoor use and ensure that your gate post is strong and secured into the ground.

  • Secure the hinges so that your gate cannot be lifted off. This may entail welding the hinges secure so that they cannot be moved out of place or simply invert the hinges so that the gate is secure.

  • 5 Lever Locks can be bolted or welded to the gate frame, and fitted to a spring bolt, sliding bolt or D-loop type gates for higher security. They can also be used on wooden or galvanised gate models. See below for an example.

Trailer Marking

Free Offer…

Local farmers can avail of our offer of free use, for up to 3 days, for our kit of letter punches. These can be used to mark trailers and machines on the farm with the owner’s postcode.

This is not only a deterrent but a valuable means of identifying recovered equipment and trail of ownership.

Rural Crime Prevention Scheme…

Crime Prevention and local farming groups are constantly organising trailer marking events that will mark your trailers with your designated location marking. This is highly visible and allows your trailer to be checked when on the move.
