Check your insurance policy and pay attention to the wording on the specification of your external door locks.

3 Lever locks must not be used on external doors as the security they provide is only suitable for internal doors such as bedrooms, offices etc.

Five lever door locks to BS3621 are required for external doors that are normally timber.

Euro type cylinders on multi point locks on doors should be approved to BS EN1303:2005. We recommend anti snap cylinders.

Consider also, one key to suit all. Master Key systems available if you have a number of premises.

Window Locks: Insurance companies like to see that window security is adhered to. All ground floor windows should have locks fitted that are key operated. Any windows that are accessable from flat roofs or other access points on another floor should also fall into this protection.

Think about your upvc windows… do they have the slips on the outside? If so, think about the risk. Check with your supplier and ask if the window pane is bonded in heavily with silicone… If not, you can tun the risk of having the slips removed, the pane lifted out and access is then quite easy.  Remedy: Consider fitting internal window locks that are bonded onto the inside of the glass. These can be fitted by a good diy person but please be careful as the adhsive is very strong and if fitted incorrectly then it can be expensive.
